One of the benefits of taking your practice offshore can be the opportunity to take on a greater variety of work in teams that are smaller and by necessity, less siloed. Nowhere is that more true than BVI, where it’s commonplace to find corporate lawyers getting involved in the full spread of transactional work spanning banking and finance, funds, and restructuring, as well as mainstream corporate, M&A, and joint ventures. It’s all high-quality, high-value international work, but without the repetition that can characterise some larger onshore departments.
The BVI team of this major offshore firm is no exception, and it is looking for someone who brings some expertise in banking and finance work, but who likes the idea of mixing this in with a whole range of other interesting stuff. It’s a hands-on role for someone who is used to dealing with clients, who wants more responsibility, and who thrives in an environment where everyone contributes, wherever, and whenever, needed.
Requirements
BVI or UK-qualified. Expected to suit someone with around 5-8 years’ relevant experience. Banking & Finance experience but willing to work across a wide range of corporate matters. Offshore experience (BVI or another jurisdiction) would be an asset but isn’t essential.
Package
Competitive USD salary with a low tax-rate (c8%) and affordable cost of living. Comprehensive benefits and bonus. Relocation package (flights + temporary accommodation on arrival + expenses allowance).
Process
Interviews by videoconference Start dates typically around 3-6 months later (depending on your notice period). Comprehensive assistance with visas and relocation.
British Virgin Islands
For some, the BVI is the pick of the Caribbean. A mountainous, rain forested interior surrounded by picture-postcard bays, it is probably not far from the idyllic image that might cross your mind when you ponder whether there is ‘more to life’. It’s not for everyone. You will need to be comfortable with a slower pace, you will see its remoteness as a gift rather than an inconvenience, and you will be the sort of person who gets more out of sailing, diving, or relaxing on the beach than you do from the buzz of city life. If that’s you, you will love it here. Not to mention that the work, much of it emanating out of China/Asia, is some of the most interesting and challenging in the sector.
