A well-established Hampshire law firm is looking to appoint an experienced enfranchisement lawyer to lead and further develop its specialist team.
This is a particularly interesting opportunity for someone who wants more than a conventional senior fee-earning role. The enfranchisement practice is already established, busy and profitable, with a strong flow of work and significant institutional instructions, including ongoing work for London local authorities. The opportunity is therefore to take ownership of an existing and successful workstream, while having genuine scope to shape how the team develops from here.
The firm has a strong presence across Hampshire and the wider South Coast and offers the quality of work and infrastructure associated with a substantial regional practice, while retaining a collegiate and accessible culture. Enfranchisement sits naturally alongside its wider residential property and property litigation offering, providing good opportunities for collaboration across the firm.
The role
You will take responsibility for a team of five combining your own technical work with leadership, supervision and oversight of the wider practice.
The caseload is varied and includes statutory lease extensions, collective enfranchisement, right to manage matters and related leasehold reform work, acting for both landlords and tenants. A significant part of the team’s work includes established local authority instructions, so the ability to oversee volume matters efficiently while maintaining technical quality and client service will be important.
Alongside fee earning, you will manage workflow and allocation across the team, supervise and develop junior colleagues and help ensure the practice continues to operate effectively and commercially. There is also scope to influence processes, strengthen existing client relationships and contribute to the continued growth and profile of the enfranchisement offering.
The role works closely with colleagues across residential property, property litigation and private client, particularly where matters cross practice areas.
About you
The firm is open-minded on precise qualification route and is primarily interested in finding someone with genuine depth of experience in leasehold enfranchisement. You may be a solicitor, legal executive or have an equivalent professional background.
You are likely to have substantial experience of statutory lease extensions and collective enfranchisement, together with a good working knowledge of the relevant legislation and the evolving leasehold reform landscape. You should be comfortable handling technically complex matters independently and providing clear, commercially sensible advice to clients.
Previous experience of supervising junior lawyers, paralegals or case handlers would be valuable. Equally important is an interest in developing people and improving the way a specialist team operates, rather than simply managing your own caseload.
The opportunity
For an established enfranchisement lawyer, this offers an attractive combination: a substantial existing caseload, a profitable and recognised specialist team, good-quality institutional and private client work, and the backing of a respected regional platform.
Importantly, this is not a role requiring someone to build a practice from scratch. There is already a strong foundation in place, with the successful individual given the opportunity to lead it, develop the people around them and influence its longer-term direction.
For a confidential discussion about the role and the firm, please get in touch with James Wheelhouse, Associate Director.
Please note that where a level of preferred experience or qualification is indicated, this is a guideline only and does not preclude applications from candidates with more or less experience.
Our consultants will review your application and assess your suitability. We endeavour to respond to all applications within 72 hours, however due to the volume of applications we receive we may not be able to respond to every candidate individually and would advise that if you do not hear from us you should assume you are not successful in your application.
